Day 1: Favorite Song
Like most people, when I'm asked this question, I list my favorite song of the moment. I'm quite the audiophile and on my computer alone I have over 130G of music which, even when most of it's 320kbps, is a fairly obscene amount. When I was younger, I used to hold entire conversations in song lyrics, the more obscure and underground the better (and usually the more angsty the better, too). Y'see, I was raised to be a musician. My exposure to anything other than classical, opera, jazz, Broadway and 'world music' (usually Celtic or South American) was pretty minimal until I turned . . . oh, eight or ten or something like that. So this is a more complicated question for me than it should be, I suppose, especially since I can't even pick a genre that's a particular favorite. I can say that I don't like country or rap, but even that's not true - I love Patsy Cline and Elvis, and Will Smith when he was the Fresh Prince still cracks me up.
So, I'm going to break the 'rules'. I do that a lot. Being a classically trained musician and an audiophile does not at all lend itself to picking one favorite song.
Favorite song to play (flute near-solo): Minuet from L'Arlésienne, Bizet
Favorite song to play with (symphonic) band/orchestra: An American in Paris, George Gershwin
Favorite marching band song: Malagueña (which is not so much a song as a style/genre, sue me)
Overall favorite classical piece: Adagio in G Minor, Albinoni
Favorite song to sing (ensemble/choir): All Things Bright and Beautiful, John Rutter
Favorite song to sing (solo/classical): Ave Maria, Schubert
Favorite song to sing (solo/karaoke): Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Pat Benetar
There are so many more. I was going to go into it - favorite songs in a genre and the like, but! That's way too much. We'll stick with the mostly classical we have here.
